With 10 quick tips that can help keep you safe and enjoying campus Life

1. Trust your gut – If it doesn’t seem right, you don’t have to do it.
Always trust your gut, and remember that you have a choice in the matter.
Choose the safeLiver path- it’s always worth it.

2. Always lock up – Even it you just run into the shower, anytime you lose sight of your valuables, lock the door. Phones and laptops are the #1 stolen items. If you’re in a public place like the library, take your belongings with you if you drift too far from the study table.

3. What goes online, may not stay online - Keep private information private. Never share credit card numbers or social security, or any personal identification information via email, chat, or social media. Your account or identity can be compromised. Also, think twice about posting anything that you wouldn’t want grandma to see.

4. Don’t let strangers in – If you don’t know them, don’t let them into your dorm or apartment building. If they are there for a friend, they can wait a few extra seconds for them to come down and let them in. You never know who you’re letting into your building, so play it safe.

5. Tell a friend - Before going out at night, make sure a friend knows where you are. if your plans change, keep them updated.

6. Safe Word - Have a safe word or phrase if you need to get out of a situation – something that’s code for “Get me out of here,” or “I’m in trouble.”

7. Never leave your drink unattended - Or watch your drink being made. It’s an obvious one, but it’s one worth reminding. Date rape drugs are easy to slip into drinks.

8. Always walk in groups - Don’t find yourself in a situation where you’re walking home alone at night. Call the campus escort service; what’s better than a free (and safe!) ride home?

9. Being followed? – Cross the street. If it continues, cross the street again, or walk down the middle of the street where it’s most lit. Walk confidently and dial 9-1-1.

10. Use LiveSafe – For reporting any incident, getting in touch with campus police, or having a friend watch you as you walk home, use LiveSafe – the campus safety app. Download it now from iTunes or Google Play if you haven’t already done so.

With these 10 tips, you’re off to a great start to the year. Feel free to share with friends and family, so they too can live safe!
